Volunteering
It
takes hundreds of volunteers to make the GPA's annual Historic
Elgin House Tour happen. If you would like to help, please
let us know!
Most volunteers serve as docents. Docents are the people you see stationed about the houses, often to deliver a short, scripted presentation to the tour guests as they enter the docent's area. Volunteers who serve as docents typically work a two hour and forty-five minute shift and in return receive complementary admission to the other houses on the tour. Some docents do work multiple shifts if they're really enthusiastic. Some even recruit friends to be docents too!
Working as a docent is a great way to meet some of your neighbors and to have fun too. If you wish to volunteer to serve as a docent, send e-mail with your name and phone number to sgochnour@yahoo.com
Thank you!

"So
if the tour is produced with volunteers, but I have to pay
to go on the tour, where does all the money go?"
An
excellent question. Part of the money earned from the Housewalk
goes to cover expenses associated with the housewalk such
as printing the brochures and the tour booklets.
But most of the money goes to fund GPA programs year-round, like the GPA's Architectural Rehabilitation Program .
