Architectural Salvage

It is a crime if a house must be demolished but some consolation if pieces of it can be salvaged and kept from the landfill. The Gifford Park Association has held a silent auction at over 60 houses in 25 years to fairly distribute old house treasures. Rules for GPA Salvages

Winning bid sheets will be POSTED at each individual home at around 1:00 PM on Saturday.  Phone calls will not be made to winning bidders as has been done in the past.

It would be helpful if someone would be at home from 11:00 to 1:00 in case we need to contact you for a clarification or to settle a tie bid.

All participants must sign a hold harmless agreement before removing items.

Make a separate bid sheet for every item you are bidding on - otherwise it is too difficult to sort the bids.

Things like doors need to be kept together as a unit with its hardware.  Complete door units have a better chance of being reused than do partial ones. The highest bid for the door assembly wins the door and all of it’s hardware - hinges, knobs, backplates, strike plate etc.. Even if you want just the hinges, bid on the entire door so that it can be compared with other bids on the entire door as a unit.  The door then could be marked “Free” or “Door available, contact ....”

Pay for items for each home, to the supervisor at that home.

Pay for items BEFORE removing them.  Remove only the items that are yours.

Be aware of other items being taken in each room.  Do not damage other’s things.  For instance, if you are taking flooring let the person taking the carpeting or baseboard remove it first or remove it without damaging it.

Some items have to wait until Sunday afternoon to be taken out.  For instance, stair treads can’t be taken before items in the second floor are removed.

No children under the age of 12 should be in attendance during the demolition or viewing. Wear thick soled shoes as there is a lot of broken glass and nails around.

Clean up any debris you make on the outside of the home.

If you are interested in unclaimed items, check the bid sheets to see if it is spoken for already then contact the supervisor at that house to make an offer on  the item.
